The 2014 holiday season is well under way with Christmas craft shows, the arrival of Mansfield’s Christmas tree, and growing excitement for Shelby’s Polar Xpress. Below is a sampling of area holiday events. 

Yesterday, Wade Gardens launched their Christmas Open House at 3360 Possum Run Rd., Mansfield opened and continues through the weekend, Saturday from 9-6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.. Their Christmas gift suggestions are on display; and of course, there are trees on the lot. On Saturday, Dec. 6 Santa Claus will visit from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing photo opportunities with children.

Today, Saturday, Nov. 15, is also Bucyrus High School’s Craft Show from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. It includes crafts, luncheon and bake sale at 900 W Perry St, Bucyrus; and there’s St. Mary’s of the Snow craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1630 Ashland Rd. Mansfield.

On Saturday, Nov 22, Mansfield will be filled with holiday spirit and Christmas lights for the 12th Annual Downtown Mansfield Holiday Parade. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. on the corner of Fifth Street and Main Street, then will move south to Central Park, and then west to Walnut Street.

Santa is going to make a stop in Shelby by way of Ashland Railway’s Polar Xpress on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. Look for more information on this 2nd annual event coming soon. It’s a fabulous event for the whole family when the train rolls into town and includes many activities and well worth a drive to Shelby.

Then enjoy more of the holiday spirit with a visit to Kingwood Center beginning Saturday, Nov. 27 and see Kingwood Hall decorated for the Holiday with Christmas displays. Kingwood Hall will be open for the Christmas display beginning that Thursday through Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Holiday lovers round out November driving through the lighting display at Christmas Wunderland at the Richland County Fairgrounds. Over 33 acres and over 400,000 colorful lights brighten animated characters and themed. Wunderland will be open Nov. 29 through Dec. 30, 2014 starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Village of Lexington will hold their annual holiday event, Light up Lexington on Monday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. on the square. Mayor Eugene Parkison will rings in the holidays with the orchestra and choir from Lexington High School. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in the fire truck as the lights are turned on for the holidays. 

Downtown Mansfield Inc.’s Christmas Time in the City on Friday, Dec. 5, begins at 5 p.m. and includes carriage rides, a reindeer petting zoo and, of course, Santa.

Possum Run Greenhouse is another stop on Santa’s itinerary. Located at 5384 Possum Run Rd., their Holiday Open House will be on Saturday, Dec. 6 with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Then on Sunday, Dec. 7, the greenhouse will be filled with the sound of live holiday music from 1:30-4 p.m., courtesy of the Clear Fork Artisans, followed by a flute/guitar duo.

Santa will also make an appearance in Galion on December 6 for the “Come Home to Galion Holiday Parade.” The parade steps off at 4 p.m. begining in Heise Park and heading South on Jefferson St. to Harding Way. There will be food, carriage rides, ice sculptures, a tree lighting, and Santa, of course.
