OLIVESBURG — Kylie Ringler pitched like it was 2010.
The Richland Source Pitcher of the Year, Ringler dominated this spring in a way that hasn’t been seen locally since the Ohio High School Athletic Association decided to move the pitching rubber from 40 to 43 feet more than a decade ago.
The Kent State-bound Ringler struck out 310 batters in 147.2 innings. She had a 0.28 earned run average and opponents hit just .113 against her.
Remarkably, Ringler threw 2,149 pitches in 23 starts this spring. She was 21-2, going the distance in all 23 appearances.
“She’s a workhorse,” Crestview coach Aaron Goon said earlier this season. “Kylie has thrown a lot of pitches, but she wants the ball.”
The hard-throwing right-hander had 14 shutouts and five no-hitters this spring. She twirled a pair of perfect games, earning a spot on the All-Ohio first team in Division III while leading the Cougars to their fourth straight Firelands Conference title and a berth in the district tournament.
“She is one great pitcher, the best we’ve seen,” Huron coach Jude Schmidt said after the Tigers beat the Cougars 4-2 in the district semifinals. “She’s very, very good.”
Ringler is the crown jewel of a talented All-Richland Source pitching staff.
Brandilyn Reymer, Ashland: A junior, Reymer already has verbally committed to Division I Morgan State in Baltimore Maryland. The hard-throwing right-hander broke the school’s single season record for wins (17) and strikeouts (248). She was an Ohio Cardinal Conference first team pick.
Caleigh Rister, Bucyrus: A senior, Rister was selected the Northern 10 Athletic Conference Player of the Year after leading Bucyrus to the N10 title. Rister was 14-3 with 178 strikeouts and a conference-low 0.88 ERA.
Ashtynn Roberts, Clear Fork: The Colts won the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference title and reached the district championship game thanks largely to Roberts. She was 16-6 with 107 strikeouts and a 3.23 ERA in 121.1 innings pitched. Roberts was a MOAC second team pick and a Northwest District honorable mention selection.
Jillian Bammann, Lexington: A junior, Bammann helped lead the rebuilding effort at Lexington. Lady Lex was 20-6 and finished runner-up in the Ohio Cardinal Conference standings at 10-2. Bammann was Lexington’s ace, earning a spot on the OCC first team. She was also one of Lex’s most productive hitters, belting five home runs with 34 runs batted in.
