The Community Center for the Deaf Advisory Committee at The Rehab Center is hoping to raise funds to support deaf individuals in the local region by partnering with Bob Evans restaurants for the Bob Evans Community Fundraiser. The fundraiser will be held Thursday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. at any of the participating Bob Evans restaurants.

By presenting one of the event fliers on Oct. 30 at any of the participating Bob Evans restaurants, which include three Mansfield locations (525 N. Trimble Rd., 30 W. Hanley Road, and 2100 W. Fourth St.) and one Ashland location (1304 E. Main St.), Bob Evans will donate 15 percent of sales to the Community Center for the Deaf Advisory Committee.

Fliers can be found as an attachment to the article, or they may also be picked up from The Rehab Center, located at 270 Sterkel Boulevard in Mansfield. The fliers are valid for both dine in or carry out and must be presented at time of check out.

Amanda Zucker, volunteer coordinator/events coordinator at The Rehab Center, said that the proceeds will go toward the purchase of deaf-friendly fire alarms. She said the goal is to raise at least $3,000 to help pay for 30 fire alarms.

“Because the alarms are so expensive, many people are just going without them, so we want to help be able to provide them for the community,” Zucker said.

According to information released by the National Fire Protection Association, deaf-friendly fire alarms are equipped with strobe lights, which help alert deaf people of a fire.

The Community Center for the Deaf Advisory Committee supports approximately 400 deaf individuals within a nine-county region, said Zucker. In addition to fundraising efforts, the committee hosts an array of events that aim to support the deaf community. To stay updated with future events and happenings, visit therehabcenter.org.
