SHELBY — It wasn’t exactly Lewis & Clark in uncharted territory, but Shelby had to survive its share of thorns while shedding Clear Fork 59-51 in Thursday night’s Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference clash.
The Whippets put a bow on this victory with a strong final-quarter kick, outpointing the Colts 24-15 in the last stanza.
Jonny DeVito had 21 points for Shelby, while T.J. Pugh added 15. Clear Fork’s Brennan South recorded 20 points for the Colts.
Shelby improved to 9-1 overall, 6-0 in the MOAC. Clear Fork drops to 4-8, 2-4.
The Whippets play host to Ontario in a Saturday night MOAC showdown between the conference’s top two teams, while Clear Fork travels to Lexington that same night.
Clear Fork authored a promising start, taking advantage of the Whippets 18-15 at the end of the first quarter. Shelby’s offense moved to a 27-20 lead at the half. The Colts came from behind to grab the advantage 36-35.
