Mildred Marguerite Mann Boehler, 97, of Ashland, passed away, Monday, May 26, 2014 at her residence – Lutheran Village.
Mildred “Midge, Millie” was born November 4, 1916 in Wooster, Ohio to the late Guy and Rose Mann. In 1919 her family moved to Akron/Portage Lakes where she graduated from Coventry High School in 1934. Then she attended Hamill’s Business College. Meanwhile, the family relocated to Ashland, Ohio. After college, Mildred moved to Ashland and worked various jobs. When she was 25 she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a few years and returned to Cleveland, Ohio where she was employed with B.F. Goodrich Chemical Company as assistant to the credit & collection manager in charge of foreign sales. She also worked at WTAM in Cleveland before settling back in Ashland, Ohio, where she was employed at Harold Motors and Fredo Travel Agency.
On December 27, 1967 she married Milton Boehler from Butte, Montana. They lived in Butte until 1976 when they retired to Ashland, Ohio.
Mildred had many hobbies ~ playing the piano and the accordion, dancing, bowling reading, crosswords along with various crafts of needlework to oil painting. She painted over 100 saw blades in the 80’s & early 90’s. She was called the world’s oldest Cleveland Indians Fan. Having attended one of the series games of the Winning 1948 World Series. She loved to converse with others on the games through this last year.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Her friendships with so very many people throughout the country and abroad are countless. Her highlight of each year was sending around 100 Christmas cards with a special letter or a note that was personalized.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton Boehler in 2003; sisters Hazel Smith and Katherine Vernon and baby Lena Mann; brothers Paul Mann, James Mann and David Mann.
Memorial service will be Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio conducted by Pastor Julie Thomes of Lutheran Village. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
