Downtown Mansfield opened up doors to the public on Friday evening for the first Shop Hop event of the season. Shops like What Goes ‘Round, Relax, It’s Just Coffee, Carrousel Antiques, City News, City Grille & Bar, Main Street Books and some at the top of hill on the square extended there hours to 9 p.m. in the spirit of Spring.
Many of these shops hosted live entertainment from local bands. Relax, It’s Just Coffee kicked off the Open Mic season with their first night last night. The Open Mic nights attract a plethora of talent, like beat boxers, poets, singers or stand-up comedians. Their event lasted until 9 p.m.
Just next door, What Goes ‘Round Thrift Shoppe held their Spring Fling event from 5 till 7 p.m. Many stopped by to find deals on the latest spring fashion. Some of the 70 volunteers made hors d’ oeuvres for the guests to enjoy while shopping. The proceeds of the night are donated directly to Hospice of North Central Ohio, a nonprofit organization devoted to serving the community.
Last year, What Goes ‘Round Thrift Shoppe was able to donate $105,000 to the nonprofit. In August of 2014, the thrift shop will celebrate its sixth year of operation.
“We do this sort of thing twice a year. This time in April and then again sometime in the fall. This one is called Spring Fling. It’s just a good way of having a party,” said Manager Cindy McConnell.
Right across the street another shop is full of antiquated treasures. Carrousel Antiques opened their doors until 9 p.m. last night to join in on the spring spirit. Guests were treated with home made hors d’oeuvres, coffee and wine.
“We usually have a really great crowd for this. We’re happy to see all the shops open,” said dealer Kelly Spencer.
Live entertainment could be found in the artistic sects of downtown Mansfield. Artspace hosted Artist in Alcove, which featured photographer Irene Maginniss. Element of Art hosted live music by Kate Westfall. Main Street Books hosted author Katrina Kittle for a reading, talk and book signing. City News hosted live music by Dane Donahue, Eric Barkdull, Rany Love, and Jim Schwan. And the Richland Academy had a night of jazz music by faculty and friends.
There is something for everyone at the First Friday Shop Hop event. Make sure to check it out in the months to follow and check out the Richland Source calendar to stay up to date.
