MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Fire Department rescued a woman from a house fire on Harker Street on Thursday morning.
The first of three squads to arrive assisted the woman out of the house at 326 Harker St., according to Mansfield Fire Department Assistant Chief Mark Sieving.
“The initial call was structure fire with people entrapped,” Sieving said. “We were told there was an adult that because of her health conditions couldn’t get out, and an infant that was still in the house that they were trying to get out.”
The infant was not in the house when firefighters arrived.
According to Sieving, the woman helped from the house had “a lot of anxiety” after the rescue, but was otherwise fine.
The fire was reported to the department at approximately 8 a.m. and was extinguished less than an hour later.
“The fire was pretty much in the back of the house, in the transition between the first and second floor,” Sieving said.
At 8:45 a.m., he told Richland Source that firefighters would remain on scene a while longer to clean up. Investigators hadn’t yet arrived to determine the cause.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the six people who were displaced.
“It’s unfortunate for the family, but the important thing is everyone is okay,” Sieving said.
