Schools closed, weather outlook updated, Richland County under Level 2 Snow Emergency

As of 7:30 a.m., Richland County is now under a level 2 snow emergency.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland updated their hazardous weather outlook for north central and northern Ohio at 3:58 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The snow was expected to end by daybreak today, and a warming trend is expected the second half of the week. Temperatures may top 50 degrees on Thursday. But rain combined with snow melt may produce flooding, especially Thursday into Friday.

If heavy rain were to occur, significant flooding is possible. Ice jam flooding is also possible.

On Friday, Feb. 7, the weather service reported that the winter/spring flood potential is above normal for the Ohio River Basin which includes parts of Ashland, Crawford, and Richland counties. An above normal flood potential means widespread flooding could occur with water levels possibly reaching moderate or major impacts depending on precipitation and snow accumulation.
