Road crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation hit the streets in preparation for the forecasted storm that's slated to hit north central Ohio this weekend.

MANSFIELD — Old man winter couldn’t stay away.

Rainy weather throughout Monday is expected to turn to snow this evening with accumulations in the northeast quarter of Ohio. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, snow fall could average between 2 to 4 inches Monday night and into Tuesday morning in Richland, Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Wayne, Lorain, Medina and Erie counties.

AccuWeather is predicting 1 to 3 inches tonight, while the National Weather Service expects less than an inch as of noon on Monday. Any wet pavement could potentially re-freeze this evening as colder air settles into the region.

The various weather services are united that temperatures will begin to fall this afternoon, with a low tonight bottoming out at around 13 degrees and wind chill ebbing near zero.

Tuesday’s high should reach to about 24 degrees. Temperatures are expected to rise into the low 40s on Wednesday.

ODOT says its garages are fully staffed and are preparing for the winter weather ahead.

“Our drivers work 12-hour shifts around the clock until the snow and ice event has ended,” read an ODOT statement. “Crews are watching the forecast and monitoring the roadways. Road conditions and visibility can change quickly, so be sure to pay close attention and slow down when conditions change.

“Our trucks typically plow and salt at slower speeds. Be sure to give our drivers room to do their job — Don’t Crowd the Plow.”
