EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the latest installment in a series of stories looking at local photographers as their businesses boom during the prom, graduation, and wedding seasons.

LEXINGTON — For nearly four years, Life Exposed Photography has captured more than just photographs. It’s sole photographer, Pam Hooker, likes to use each photo shoot as a way to connect with her models.

“I like meeting new people and making people feel beautiful and handsome,” Hooker said. “Giving them a great experience.

“I do a lot of high school seniors and families, and I think what they like most about is I teach them how to pose and how to look good for pictures. I’ve heard a lot of people say, ‘I didn’t know how to pose before, and I really like how you taught while taking my photos.’ “

Hooker said she feels she does some of her best person-to-person connecting through photography.

“I do a lot of pre-consultations. It just depends on what they want to do,” the natural-light photographer said. “We spend a lot of time outside and we have space that I rent. I have to find out what kind of photos they want.

“I don’t just do the questionnaire because sometimes what they write down isn’t really was they want.”

After taking up photography a decade ago, Hooker said she has been stationed in the Lexington area for the past four years. She follows the Lexington football team, taking photos on the sidelines and Americheer/Ameridance, a dance and cheer company this past year. She has been published in national magazines.

“I find out about what school they want to go to, what they want to do when they grow up. It’s just nice getting to know new people.”
