LOUDONVILLE — A discussion of Bigfoot is coming to Mohican country this month.
Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Grassman … all names for the legendary giant, ape-like creature that reportedly inhabits North America, including Ohio.
Everyone has heard the tales of the giants and seen the blurry videos, but are they all true — or is it a hoax? The Grassman, an Ohio-specific breed, is described as, “a Bigfoot type creature” that is 7 feet tall, 300 pounds, and “leaves three-toed tracks,” and lives primarily around Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
In recent years, reported sightings have increased with some even claiming to see the legendary creatures near Loudonville — including one blurry video “showing” Bigfoot at an Apple Valley golf course.
Yet, despite the high-tech world we live in how is there so little evidence about such large creatures — and why, with powerful cameras now in every pocket, are there no quality videos or photographs? Dr. Mark Wilson, previously featured on History’s Ancient Aliens, will join the Mohican Historical Society to discuss “The Scientific Perspective on Bigfoot.”
Wilson, a Professor of Natural Sciences at the College of Wooster, will focus on what evidence exists, and more importantly, what evidence is still needed to determine if one of America’s most persistent myths really exists.
