MANSFIELD – A 30-year-old Mansfield man died early Saturday morning in a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV, according to the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Samuel Simmons was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the Patrol stated.
The incident took place near the intersection of Park Avenue East and South Adams Street at approximately 2:43 a.m.
The preliminary investigation shows a 2021 Ford Expedition, operated by David Kirst, 49,
of Mansfield, was westbound at the traffic signal on Park Avenue at Adams Street.
A 2001 Yamaha FZS1000 motorcycle, operated by Simmons, was westbound on Park Avenue approaching Adams Street. The Ford was struck in the rear by the Yamaha, the Patrol reported.
Kirst, also a Mansfield resident, had “possible injuries” according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The OSHP is investigating the crash. Assured clear distance and speed are possible factors, it stated.
The Mansfield Police Department, Shelby Police Department, Mansfield Fire Department,
and Auer’s Towing assisted on the scene.
