MANSFIELD — Richland Public Health is proud to announce that it will host GuardCare 2027, a large-scale community health and wellness event, from July 30 through Aug. 1, 2027, at The Ohio State University at Mansfield campus.

GuardCare is a community outreach initiative led by the Ohio National Guard that provides free health services and resources to the public. The program is designed to increase access to care for individuals and families by offering a wide range of essential services at no cost.

Traditionally, GuardCare events include medical evaluations, dental care, and optometry services, along with health screenings, wellness education, and connections to community resources.

Richland Public Health plans to provide core services, including medical, dental, and vision care, during the 2027 event, while also expanding its offerings through partnerships with local healthcare providers and community organizations.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our community,” said Dr. Julie Chaya, Health Commissioner of Richland Public Health. “We are honored to bring GuardCare to Richland County. Events like this help remove barriers to care and connect residents to vital health services in a meaningful way.

“While we expect to offer medical, dental, and optometry services, I fully anticipate expanding programs and services throughout the weekend to meet even more community needs.”

Doctor Chaya also emphasized the importance of collaboration in bringing the event to life.

“We are thrilled to partner with The Ohio State University at Mansfield, whose campus provides an ideal setting to welcome thousands of participants, volunteers, and community partners,” Chaya said. “Guardcare is open to everyone – there are no residency requirements–so anyone in need of services is encouraged to attend.”

Organizers anticipate thousands of attendees over the three-day event and emphasize that community involvement will be critical to its success. Richland Public Health is currently seeking local organizations, healthcare providers, and community groups to participate, as well as volunteers to assist with event operations.
