MANSFIELD — A Mansfield man was arrested on Friday afternoon in what authorities believe was a local counterfeit scheme.
Jordan M. Denes, 25, of 630 Staub Road West, 112, Mansfield, was arrested on Friday at approximately 4:30 p.m. and charged with forgery, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
“Mr. Denes advised that he was a heroin addict and he has been making counterfeit money in order to support his habit,” read a report filed by Richland County Sheriff’s deputy Jeff Alfrey. “He advised that he does have drug paraperhnalia on his person. That was collected.”
Sheriff’s officials reported consent was obtained to search the apartment and “Mr. Denes advised what items he used to produce the counterfeit money and where they were located.”
A printer/scanner was found, along with drug paraphernalia and a substance authorities believe is heroin. There were 20 counterfeit $20 bills recovered totaling $400, along with a receipt from Wendy’s. The Sheriff’s Department noted that all items were collected as evidence.
In other sheriff’s reports related to the case, previous complaints advise incidents may have also taken place at Tim Horton’s and McDonald’s where counterfeit bills could be involved. Authorities say they were led to Denes after surveillance video from Tim Horton’s was reviewed and a license plate number was obtained.
The Secret Service was contacted and the investigation will continue.
