BELLVILLE: The “mile-high meringue pies” that became Roxanna Weikle’s trademark were less about the egg whites and sugar, and more about the kind and gentle soul who put her heart into her baking. It was an example of how her soft-spoken spirit loved generously.
Remembered for her beautiful smile, Roxanna passed into the Lord’s care Friday afternoon March 24, 2017 in Visiting Nurses Hospice Home, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was 72.
Born September 1, 1944 in Union, WV to Remus and Eva (Broyles) Weikle, she was graduated from Greenville (WV) High School.
Roxanna had worked more than ten years as a cook at V&M Restaurant in Bellville, where her specialty chicken and dumplings and meringue pies became staples.
A member of Bellville First Baptist Church, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by her daughter Jackie (John) Sherrill of Ft. Wayne, IN; grandchildren Derrick, Winter and Willow Sherrill all of Ft. Wayne; great grandson Zayden Estep; sister-in-law Madaline Weikle of Union, WV; brother-in-law Calvin Amos of Rock Camp, WV and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Billie Joe on April 30, 2012. Also deceased are siblings Dorman Weikle, Emogene Dosier and Vada Amos.
Her family will receive friends Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Bellville First Baptist Church, 4534 St Rt 13 N (at Spayde Road), with Brother Wayne Gullion and Pastor Bill Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
