Gary Robertson Sr. – March 23, 1954 – November 1, 2026
Gary Robertson Sr. passed away on November 1, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him very much and countless memories that will never be forgotten.
Gary was a small business owner for more than 50 years. Throughout his life he wore many hats, but one of his sons’ favorite memories was his storefront candy shop. He had a knack for fixing just about anything, whether it was a washer or dryer, a car, or even a clock. If something was broken, he was the man you called. He had many hobbies, but some of his happiest times were spent camping and fishing on his pontoon boat. And if you knew Gary, you knew his 70s country playlist was on loop. Saturdays with papaw smelled like the outdoors, fish, and steaks on the grill.
Above all else, Gary’s grandchildren were his greatest joy. They will tell you he was so much fun to be around. He made memories with them through fishing trips, camping adventures, movie nights, game nights, and those big breakfasts everyone looked forward to (with a special thank you to Grandma Chris). The grandkids also knew that when papaw was around, he was gonna hand out cash!
Gary was stubborn, hardworking, generous, and kind. He may have been a quiet man most of the time, but when his two sons were together with him, the laughter could be heard from just about anywhere. Those who knew him will remember his ability to fix almost anything, his love of the outdoors, his big heart, and the special way he made time with family count.
Gary leaves behind his son, Lee (Amy) Robertson; grandchildren Courtney (Chris) Detty, Jansen (Macie) Robertson, Joshua Robertson, Jaden Robertson, Elijah Robertson, Anna Robertson; and great-grandchildren Atticus Detty, Avery Barker, Dawson Detty, Charlotte Robertson, and Ella Robertson. He also leaves behind two sisters: Diane (Roy) Carroll and Donna (John) Atwell as well as many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Robertson; his mother, Edna Robertson; his wife, Margie Christine Robertson; his son, Jarod Robertson; and his daughter-in-law, Ange Robertson.
Gary’s legacy is one of hard work, family, laughter, and a lifetime of memories. Though he will be deeply missed, the stories, lessons, fishing trips, campfires, and laughter he leaves behind will continue to bring his family joy for years to come. He may have left us, but the memories will never stop playing.
Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Lantz Cemetery.
