Janet La Vern Bessinger, 90, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Unger Park Post Acute. She was born on August 27, 1936, to the late Woodrow and Alma (Sharrock) Bessinger.
She was a high school graduate and dedicated many years of service to Columbia Gas of Ohio, where she served as a Customer Service Representative and Office Manager in both the Galion and Crestline offices.
Janet had a deep love for harness racing, a passion that brought her much joy throughout her life. She was the proud owner of several horses and enjoyed following their races and being part of the harness racing community. Her love for the sport was more than just a hobby; it was a special part of who she was and a passion she treasured. Janet also served as treasurer for the Dart Kart Speedway Club in Mansfield, where she enjoyed racing go-karts. Her involvement in the club and her love of racing brought her many wonderful memories.
Left to cherish Janet’s memory are her brother, Robert “Bob” Bessinger; her nephew, Rob Bessinger; her nieces, Nicole Bessinger and Annette Lester; and her great-nephew, Jacob Bessinger.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her siblings, William “Bill” Bessinger and Jeanette St. Clair.
