Claudia May Mathews, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. She was born on September 14, 1955, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Robert and Beverly (Zediker) Whitaker.

Claudia was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who found great joy in the simple pleasures of life and, most of all, in the people she loved. She adored her children and grandchildren and was happiest when she was spending time with them. She rarely missed an opportunity to be involved in their lives, whether it was doing things together, watching them play sports, or simply sharing time and conversation.

A devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan, Claudia enjoyed cheering on her team and sharing her love of sports with her family. She also loved shopping and going out to lunch, traveling, gardening, and working in the yard at her home in the country. She loved to swim and especially enjoyed relaxing with a cup of coffee on her porch. Her animals held a special place in her heart as well.

Claudia had a generous spirit and genuinely enjoyed helping others. She had a soft spot for the underdog and was always willing to lend a hand. She loved adventure and travel, spending time in her RV and, with her partner, Dave Gorka, owning and operating an RV park in New Mexico.

Throughout her working life, Claudia touched many lives. She worked at the Richland Carousel and later retired as a dispatcher for the Ontario Police Department.

Claudia will be deeply missed by her children, Jordan Whisler, Mark Mathews, and Jillian Mathews; grandchildren, Grant Beard and Callum Beard; mother, Beverly Whitaker; brother, Bob Whitaker; and special friend, Carla Sevdalis.

In addition to her father, Robert “Bob” Whitaker, Claudia was preceded in death by her beloved partner, Dave Gorka.

In keeping with Claudia’s wishes, there will be no services.
