MORROW COUNTY — A 17-year-old Fredericktown driver died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision in Morrow County, according to state troopers.
The fatal crash occurred around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Morrow County Road 170 and Township Road 187 in Harmony Township, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the 17-year-old driver from Fredericktown was westbound on Township Road 187 in a 2010 Mazda 6 when the vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign.
The Mazda collided with a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Hunter Steck, 31, of Marengo.
After the impact, both vehicles went off the west side of County Road 170 and struck a ditch.
The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene by Morrow County EMS. Authorities have not released the juvenile’s identity. Steck suffered minor injuries, according to the patrol.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, officials said.
The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Big Walnut Fire Department, Morrow County Fire Department, the Morrow County Coroner, and Bill’s Towing assisted troopers at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
