Larry Gene Swain, 85, of Crestline, passed away peacefully at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, Columbus on Monday, August 31, 2026. Born in Crestline on March 30, 1941, to the late Paul and Stella (Skidmore) Swain, Sr. Larry dedicated his life to his family, his community, and his country. He will be profoundly missed by his beloved spouse, Patricia “Patti (Messenger) Swain, and his cherished daughters, Shelley and Lisa Swain. Larry is also survived by his brothers, Jim and Tom Swain, who shared in his love for family and life.

A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Larry enlisted on June 1, 1959, and served until March 7, 1963, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal. His service included a memorable Mediterranean tour, where he forged friendships that lasted a lifetime. Larry remained connected with his fellow Marines long after his service, demonstrating loyalty and camaraderie that is a testament to his character.

Larry was also known for his industriousness, spending 43 years as a welder maintenance man at General Motors before retiring in June 2006. A Crestline High School graduate from the class of 1959, he was deeply rooted in his community.

In his younger years, Larry enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting deer and rabbits. He found joy in watching trains from his garage, where he would often reminisce about his life and the experiences that shaped him. Above all, Larry was a loving and protective father, whose dedication to his family was unwavering.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Grace Point Church, 683 Portland Way North, Galion from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by funeral services held by Pastor Paul Walter at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered.

Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Swain, Jr., and his sister, Jessie Hohenbrink
