Carol A. Johnson-VanDeWiele, age 74 of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Shelby Pointe Nursing Home. She was born on April 21,1952, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Clyde Johnson Jr. and Charlene Rowland.
Carol was a 1970 graduate of Northmor High School, and she then went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Mansfield Business College. She was an active tribal member of the Cherokee Nation. She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed camping and tending to plants and flowers. Carol was always kind and compassionate towards others. She was a strong advocate for mental health and was always willing to help others, and she had a wonderful sense of humor. She always made people laugh. She was a wonderful grandmother and loved her family above all else.
She is survived by her daughters Stefanie Wolfhope-Smith and Suzanne (William) Kinney-Riggenbach; her grandchildren Jessee (Richard Marshall) Kinney, Lakota Kinney, Dominic (Alaina Schnees) Kinney, Devin (Evelina Richardson) Kinney, Linkin Kinney, Clarissa Wolfhope, and Tiffany Smith; her brother Dan Rowland; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde Johnson Jr. and Charlene Rowland and numerous other relatives.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor John Dodds officiating.
