MOUNT GILEAD — Recycle chemical containers and agricultural tires for free at the Agricultural Recycling Day on Sat., Aug. 1.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the Morrow County Fairgrounds, located at 195 S. Main Street, Mount Gilead.
This joint effort offers local farmers and commercial applicators a single, convenient location to clean out their shops, recycle plastic containers, and safely dispose of old agricultural tires at no cost. No pre-registration is required to participate.
The agricultural container collection is part of the national Ag Container Recycling Council program, which has successfully recycled more than 236 million pounds of agricultural plastic since 1992.
To be accepted, containers must be made of rigid high-density polyethylene (HDPE) up to 55 gallons (resin #2 or 7) in size and have previously held crop protection or agricultural products.
All jugs must be triple-rinsed (or pressure-rinsed), completely dry, and free of residue inside and out. Caps and booklet labels must be removed and discarded prior to drop-off. Consumer, home, or garden pesticide containers are excluded.
Simultaneously, agricultural tires of any size will be accepted. All tires must be off the rim and reasonably free of mud, water, and heavy debris to be accepted for recycling.
This event is made possible through the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Ag Container Recycling Council and hosted by Delaware, Knox, Marion and Morrow Solid Water District, Morrow County Farm Bureau, Morrow County Soil and Water Conservation District and OSU Extension – Morrow County.
