Jerry Roger Dever, 83
Jerry Roger Dever, 83 of Ashland passed from this life on Wednesday evening, July 8, 2026, in Riverside Methodist Hospital.
He was born on February 20, 1943, in Ashland the son of the late George William and Grace Lucille (nee Statler) Dever Sr.
Jerry graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1961. Following high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Jerry served four years and was honorably discharged in 1966.
He married the former, Sharon Michael, on June 6, 1987.
Jerry retired after more than 18 years from Mansfield Correctional, where he was a maintenance superintendent in 2003. He was previously employed at Lorain Correctional, North Central Corrections and Welsh Plumbing.
He was a devoted member of the V.F.W., Post 1067, Amvets 96, and Harry Higgins Post 88 of the American Legion. Jerry also was a member of both the Elks and Eagles lodge in Ashland. Jerry served many years on the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard. Throughout his life, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, bowling on a league at Luray and King Lanes, golfing, and singing in a barber shop quartet for many years.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mrs. Sharon Dever of Ashland; two children, Jeff (Cat Taylor) Dever of Belleview, Florida and Tonya (fiancé Larry Cunningham) Drum of Ashland; grandchildren, Dakota Dever of Perrysville, Brittney (fiancé Phil Hamilton) Sommerfeld of Polk and Casey Miller of Mansfield; one great grandchild, Donavan Dever of Ashland; two brothers, Raymon (Cherie) Dever of Ashland and James Gilbrath of Newark, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, Mark (Debby) Dever, Michael (Cindy) Dever, Ben (Janine) Dever, Doug (Gina) Dever, Matt Dever, Anne Dever, and Shawn (fiancé Jennifer) Michael; brother-in-law, Charlie (Kathy) Michael of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Lynn Lewis of Ashland; and numerous great nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in by a grandson, Jaxon Dever; a brother, George William Dever Jr.; a niece, Pamela Hall; and a brother-in-law, Willard Norton.
A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held on August 15, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Ashland Eagles Aerie #2178, 400 Eastlake Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805. Full military honors will be conducted by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.
