Richard R. McCleery of Lexington passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 3, 2026.

Born on January 21, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan, Rich was the son of the late Richard D. and Julia (Fransisco) McCleery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Jonathan Roshon.

Rich is survived by his children, Megan (Rob) Roshon, Mark (Beth) McCleery, Marcia (Mike) Schmeerbauch and Tim McCleery; his cherished partner Michael Anne Harbour; grandchildren Kyle Roshon, Jake McCleery, Matthew McCleery, Andrew Schmeerbauch and Patrick Schmeerbauch; great-granddaughter Charlotte McCleery; sisters Eva Handley and Carol Hammond; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Rich proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1958-1962. Following his military service, he made Lexington his lifelong home, where he built a successful career as a builder, developer, realtor and broker. For six decades he helped shape his community through his work and vision and the relationships he built along the way.

Spending time with those he loved brought great happiness to Rich. Annual family trips to Florida became treasured traditions and he found great joy in boating and spending time with friends on Lake Erie. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, infectious sense of humor, generous heart and his ability to make every gathering more joyful and more memorable.

In keeping with Rich’s wishes, the family will be celebrating his life privately and encourage you to honor and remember him in your own way.
