Patricia “Pat” Sabo, of Little Washington, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026. She was 90.
She was born on December 5, 1935 to Norman E. and Marian R. (Kiddle) Wetzel in Lakewood, Ohio. Growing up in the area she attended and graduated from West Lake High School with the class of 1955.
Pat married Albert F. Sabo on September 10, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, and together they shared 46 years of marriage until his passing in 2006. In 1971, they moved to the Mansfield area to raise their family, a community Pat continued to call home for many years.
Pat was a devoted member of The Little Washington Congregational Church, where her faith was lived out through years of quiet service and generosity. She served on the Women’s Fellowship and the Christian Education Committee, lovingly prepared floral arrangements for the church, and shared her faith by teaching Bible school. A gifted baker, she was famous for her pies, with stories of people lining up at church events and pie auctions over the years to make sure they didn’t miss out on one of Pat’s homemade creations.
An avid horsewoman, Pat was a longtime member of the American Quarter Horse Association, COSCA, and the Ashland Paint & Plain Club. She spent many years showing horses and rode every chance she got- even well into her 80s. Horses were a lifelong passion, but her creativity extended far beyond the barn as a talented artist with a gift for drawing and painting. Always ready for her next adventure, Pat enjoyed traveling with the Freedom Years Tour Group and Richland Bank, though those who knew her best would agree she could get hopelessly turned around with unwavering confidence. Family members also lovingly recall that she somehow always ended up in the back seat and, more often than not, accidentally locked inside the car whenever the group made a stop. Above all, Pat was an animal lover, sharing her life with beloved horses and many furry companions through the years. And no day was complete without something sweet- especially chocolate or, in her later years, a well-earned bowl of ice cream.
She is survived by her daughters Jennifer (James) Nester, Rebecca (John) DeVore, and Allison (Matthew) Hartman, grandchildren David DeVore, Elizabeth Nester, Dreama Nester, Logan Hartman, and Justin Hartman, brother Edward Wetzel, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Pat is preceded in death by her parents, half brothers Tom McEmtee and Jack McEmtee, and sister-in-law Carolyn Wetzel.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 2 to 4 pm at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel. A memorial service honoring Pat’s life will begin immediately after. Celebrant Dave Roberts will speak.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America at www.dementiasociety.org/donate.
