Jon K. Burton passed from this world to his eternal rest Thursday morning, June 4, 2026, at Brethren Care Health Care Center in Ashland, Ohio. He was 76 years old. Born November 4, 1949, the son of Charles and Aileen (Turner) Burton, he was a lifelong resident of the Mansfield area, with family roots from the early 1820s.
Jon graduated from The Ohio State University and the University of Akron School of Law and practiced law in Mansfield until he retired in 2023. He served as an elder at Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church from its inception in 1997. Jon fulfilled his calling, working tirelessly to be the best attorney and church elder he could be. In every aspect of his life, he was humble, generous, and kind, fruits of his faith in, and love for, Jesus Christ, his Savior and Lord.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. On August 19, 1978, he married his wife Christine who survives. He is also survived by his three children and their spouses, Andrew and Bethel Burton of Mansfield, Matthew and Stephanie Burton of Kernersville, North Carolina, and Elizabeth and Evan Oyster of Mansfield; nine grandchildren, Abigail, Ruth, Lydia, and Miriam Burton, Levi, Luke, Emma, and Grant Burton, and Penelope Oyster; as well as his brother, Don (Carol) Burton of Missouri; and cousins, Susie (Ron) Muth of Mansfield and Melinda (David) Foster of Crowley Lake, California.
A private burial was held at Mansfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00-7:00 pm on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, at 11:00 am, at Mansfield First Presbyterian Church, corner of Trimble and Millsboro Roads, with the Reverends Dylan Rowland and Larry Oldaker presiding.
