Edgell Franklin “Frank” Lyon, 82, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following a short illness surrounded by his children. Through every setback, Frank fought gallantly, often baffling his doctors and care team with his strength, resilience, and determination. Though his passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved him, there is comfort in knowing he is now at peace and reunited with the love of his life, Lovella “Lou” Lyon, who preceded him in death on September 6, 2024.

Frank was born on September 15, 1943, in Gahanna and graduated from East Knox High School in 1962. He dedicated more than 40 years of hard work and loyalty to Covert Manufacturing, where he served as Quality Manager and worked in leadership roles across several departments before retiring at the remarkable age of 70. His many years of commitment, dependability, and strong work ethic earned the respect of coworkers and friends alike.

On September 3, 1968, Frank married Lovella “Lou” Wilson, and together they blended their households into one large family. By the age of 28, Frank was helping raise eight children in a rural Knox County farmhouse with just one bathroom — a challenge that required patience, determination, and plenty of teamwork. Life was not always easy, especially during difficult times like the Blizzard of 1978, but somehow Frank and Lou always found a way through every hardship together. If there was a problem, they made a plan and kept moving forward.

Despite the demands of a large family, Frank and Lou created countless cherished memories for their children. Summers were often spent camping at Burr Oak State Park and Pleasant Hill Lake Park, all squeezed together in one giant tent. One unforgettable adventure included piling the whole family into a van for a trip to Colorado — the kind of memory that became family legend over the years.

Frank and Lou also treasured the friendships and travels they shared with Lou’s sister and brother-in-law, Ed and Gloria Waite. Together they enjoyed camping trips, visits to Wheeling and Las Vegas, and many good times filled with laughter. The couple belonged to a bowling league and were active members of the Honda Gold Wing Road Riders Association, where they enjoyed motorcycle rides and the friendships built along the way.

Frank was also a proud member of Mount Zion Masonic Lodge No. 9. He was known as a kind, patient gentleman who quietly absorbed everything happening around him like a sponge. He did not need to be the loudest person in the room to leave an impression. Those who knew him well will fondly remember his special laughing fits — the kind that would leave him short of breath, coughing, and unable to stop once he got going.

He had a love for flashy and fast cars throughout his life. He especially enjoyed classics like his ’68 Road Runner, Duster, and Plymouth GTX. But for as much as he loved horsepower and chrome, he was equally content settling into a comfortable chair for a good afternoon nap.

One of Frank’s greatest joys was bringing happiness to others. For many years, he quietly and anonymously played Santa Claus at family gatherings, creating magical memories for children and adults alike. Whether for holidays, celebrations, or simply times when family needed him most, Frank was always present whenever he was able.

Above all else, Frank will be remembered as a devoted husband, hardworking provider, and loving father who gave everything he had to his family. His life was one of resilience, sacrifice, humor, quiet strength, and deep love — the kind of life that leaves a lasting imprint on generations to come.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing that Frank and Lou are together once again.

Frank is survived by his children Patricia “Patti” Scott, Susan “Sue” Ramey, Michelle “Shelli” (Keith) Vipperman, Stacey Weyhmeller, Lynne Schwaner, William “Bill” Lyon, and James “Jimmy” (Misty) Lyon; grandchildren T.J. (Abby), Steven (Courtney), Christina, Joshua (Kristy), Danielle (Brody), Brett (Madison), Whitney (Chris), James (Kaiti), Josie, Michael, Helena (Jason), Rachel, Kristen, Cody (Madison), Alyssa (Isaiah), Bryce (Mikayla), Ashton; great grandchildren Hailey, Evelyn, Emily, Logan, Briggs, Lainey, Brooks, Tristan, Marlee, Annalee, Elliana, Alayna, Maverick, Naveah, Skylar, Hayley, Anthony, Maddie, Jayden, Broegan, Kendall, Easton, Blake, and Grady; brothers Don Schobelock, Bill Schobelock; sister-in-law Gloria Waite; and many nieces, and nephews.
