Margaret “Jane” Miller, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. She was born on February 19, 1936, in Marion, Ohio, to the late William and Louise (Williams) Haley.

She married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Miller, on August 30, 1959. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Through the years, they created countless cherished memories, supporting one another through life’s joys and challenges, until his passing on May 5, 2021.

Jane graduated from Claridon High School in 1954 and went on to continue her education at Bowling Green State University. She built a distinguished career in education, earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the field. She dedicated 35 years to teaching at Crestline Elementary School, where she inspired countless students, and later served as principal for two years, further shaping the school community through her leadership. Her love of sports led her to coach girls’ tennis at Crestline High School, where she encouraged teamwork and confidence in her players.

Jane lived a life deeply rooted in service, community, and the simple joys she cherished each day. She devoted 25 years to the Crestline Library Board, where her love of learning and literacy left a lasting impact. As a proud member of the Bowling Green State University Alumni Board, she remained closely connected to her alma mater throughout her life. Jane also dedicated more than 50 years to the Daughters of the American Revolution, William Hendricks Chapter, honoring her heritage through active involvement and service.

Beyond her many commitments, Jane found great happiness in life’s quieter moments. She enjoyed gardening, reading, working puzzles, and sewing—pastimes that reflected her patience, creativity, and thoughtful nature. She especially treasured time spent visiting with friends, always offering a warm smile and kind conversation. Above all, Jane was a devoted and loving grandmother and great-grandmother, taking immense pride in her family and cherishing every moment spent with them. Jane was also an active and devoted member of Claridon Global Methodist Church, where her faith and fellowship were central to her life.

Left to cherish Jane’s memory are her daughter, Dr. Elizabeth (Mark) Smith; her grandchildren, Tyler Smith and Katelyn Smith; her great-grandchildren, Lincoln Horsley and Lorenzo Smith; and her siblings, Joan Shelton, and Janet (Tom) Kightlinger.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Bob, Jane was preceded in death by her son, Richard Miller, her grandson, Dylan Smith, and her sister, Jean Lemke and brother-in-law, Steve Lemke.
