MANSFIELD – Sergeant Patrick Williams of the Mansfield Police Department (MPD) has been honored with the VFW Department of Ohio Police Officer of the Year Award in recognition of his exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to the community.

Williams began his career in the U.S. Marine Corps (2003 to 2009) as a field radio operator, later transferring to the Air National Guard (2011 to present), where he served as a firefighter from 2011 to 2018 before commissioning as a Force Support officer in 2019.

He now holds the rank of Captain and has served with distinction in both military and law enforcement roles.

As Sergeant of MPD’s Neighborhood Impact Section (NIS), Williams has been pivotal in enhancing community relations and addressing critical quality-of-life issues.

Leadership and community Impact

In his role with NIS, Williams leads initiatives focused on crime prevention, neighborhood engagement, and youth outreach, including the School Resource Officer (SRO) program and Neighborhood Watch groups.

His proactive leadership has helped build stronger connections between the police department and Mansfield residents.

Excellence in service

Williams’ service includes deployments to Iraq, Kuwait, and Qatar, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and resilience.

He has been recognized for his expertise in crisis intervention and de-escalation, mentoring his team, and fostering community-based programs.

His broad experience in the military, fire service, and law enforcement forms the foundation of his professional integrity and leadership.

A reward for service

As part of receiving the VFW Department of Ohio Police Officer of the Year Award, the VFW is donating $3,000 to the charity of Williams’ choice.

Williams has chosen to direct this generous donation to the Domestic Violence Shelter, an organization that provides critical support to those affected by domestic abuse.

This prestigious award is a testament to Williams’ consistent excellence and his commitment to improving the safety and well-being of Mansfield residents.
