Roger Wade Gilmore, 82, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at his residence. He was born on May 24, 1943, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late William and Ova (Miller) Gilmore.

Roger attended Fredericktown High School. He went on to proudly and honorably serve his country in the United States Army. As a Vietnam veteran, Roger exemplified bravery, resilience, and an unwavering sense of duty, earning the respect and gratitude of all who knew his story.

Roger married his beloved wife, Sheryl (Dunn) Gilmore, on November 29, 1991. Together, they built a life rich in love and cherished memories, from adventurous motorcycle trips to countless moments filled with laughter, joy, and deep companionship.

Roger lived a life full of passion, purpose, and wide-ranging interests that reflected his adventurous spirit and love for others. He played an active role in organizing Rolling Thunder events in Morrow County.

Roger had a deep love for the open road, especially when it came to motorcycles. He treasured the many trips he took following the Rolling Thunder motorcycle group, riding through places like South Dakota, Florida, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C.When he wasn’t riding, he could often be found enjoying time on the water boating, perfecting his aim in archery, hunting, or spending a relaxing day on the golf course.

At home, Roger’s creativity and skill truly shined. Whether he was woodworking, smoking meat to share with family and friends, or tackling just about any project that came his way, he earned the reputation of being “a guy of all trades.” His talents, generosity, and zest for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Left to cherish Roger’s memory are his beloved wife, Sheryl; his children, Connie Bailey, Kelly (James) Dolin, Steven (Megan) Brown, and Brian Gilmore; his grandchildren, Danielle Bailey, Brittany Bailey, Joshua Uhl, Brooke McCleese, Daniel Dolin, Sophia Zehner, Sydney Brown, Caleb Brown, and Dakota Carpenter; his seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Karen (Wharton) Sherman; and his nephew and niece, Daniel Sherman and Kathy (Sherman) Swendal.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Stansberry; his grandparents, Clifton and Willa Miller; his brother, Phillip Gilmore; his stepfathers, Glenn Wharton and Everett Ressler; and his brother-in-law, Donald Sherman.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gompf Funeral Service – Galion Chapel, 303 Portland Way N., Galion, where family and friends will gather to celebrate and honor Roger’s life. Military honors will be rendered at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gilmore family to help offset funeral expenses.
