Pauline Sylvia Marcum, 86, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at Mill Creek Nursing Home. She was born on October 7, 1939, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, to the late Woodrow Spence and Muriel (Oakley) Spence.
She was united in marriage to James “Alvin” Marcum, and together they built a life rich in devotion, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Their years were filled with cherished memories and quiet joys that sustained her long after his passing in 1997.
Pauline will be remembered for the unconditional love she showed to everyone she met. Her home was always open, her heart even more so. She had a rare gift for making others feel seen, valued, and cared for, whether they were family, friends, or strangers who quickly became both. As the rock of her family, Pauline was a steady source of strength, wisdom, and comfort through life’s joys and trials. Her unwavering faith, gentle guidance, and steadfast presence anchored those she loved, leaving a legacy of compassion and resilience that will continue to live on in each of them.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jason (Steven Kemle) Marcum; her granddaughter, Brittany (Steven) Britt; her very special great-grandson, Silas Britt; and her cousin, who was more like a sister to her, Brenda McGlone.
Pauline was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Marcum; her sister, Violet Spence; and her nephews, Darryl Spence and Guy Spence.
