MANSFIELD – Nonprofit organizations are critical in our community. Board members have legal duties to ensure the effectiveness of those groups.

The Richland County Foundation, through its Osborne Meese Academy, will partner with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to provide in-person sessions of Charitable University.

Charitable University is a learning platform developed by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, provides tools for some of the most important elements in leading a charitable organization: board governance, governmental filings, financial operations, and fundraising.

Beth Short of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office will facilitate four 3-hour sessions for local non-profit board members on the following dates: March 17 from 9 a.m. to noon, July 16 from 4 to 7 p.m., Sept. 17 from 4-7 p.m. and November 5 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Eisenhower Marketplace at Ohio State University-Mansfield.

Registration is free at richlandcountyfoundation.org, but required.

“I want non-profit leaders and board members to learn the legal and procedural dutiesneeded to ensure effectiveness and to strengthen their boards for long-term impact in Richland County,” said Richland County Foundation Senior Community Investment Officer Siera Marth-May.

Non-profit organizations that complete the training requirements with at least 75% board attendance will be eligible for a two-hour session with a consultant to provide specialized board governance training and development.

The organizations meeting 75% attendance will also will be entered into a chance to win a $1,000 grant prize during Richland Gives, the Foundation’s annual online giving event.

The Osborne Meese Academy (OMA) was established out of a need within the community to build capacity, serve as an informational resource, and act as a catalyst to encourage stronger collaboration among nonprofit organizations.
