Ernest L. Zartman, age 89, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026. He was born on July 4, 1936, and grew up in Mansfield, Ohio, the son of hardworking parents, Paul Zartman and Hazel Best Zartman who instilled in him a steadfast work ethic and a deep sense of family.
Ernie started life early working alongside his dad on the milk truck at Isley’s, a humble beginning that shaped his character. From those early days on the route, he dedicated himself to becoming successful and to building a life marked by perseverance, integrity, and leadership. Through hard work, he rose to become an international sales manager for the Gorman-Rupp Pump Company. His ascent from the shop floor to a global leadership role stands as a testament to his diligence, his ability to connect with people across cultures and borders, and his unwavering commitment to family. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a devoted husband, father, and pillar of his community, and he loved cars with a passion that added a joyful speed to his days.
Ernie was an avid golfer and enjoyed tennis, traveling, and playing golf with his wife Carol and his group of friends—practicing and competing well into his late 80s. He also loved playing cards with his friends Bill and Elaine Howard, a cherished pastime that brought him joy and camaraderie.
Ernie will be fondly remembered by his loving wife, Carole Zartman; his daughters, Melissa Dyan – Zartman and Lanny Zartman; his son, Scott Zartman; his step-children, Vicki Martin, Scott Schneider and Stan Schneider; his grandchildren, Frankie & Heather Elias, Brooke Martin, Rita, Jonathan and Sherry Zartman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Roxy Zartman; his son, Ernest Zartman, Jr; his siblings, Paul, Norman, Penny and Pat.
