Lexington product Lucas Starling and a handful of other Minutemen are making waves for the Mount Union men’s swimming program.

A senior, Starling was selected the Ohio Athletic Conference men’s swimmer of the week for the second time in his career earlier this week.

The Purple Raiders sailed to a 215-43 win over Westminster (Pa.) College thanks in no small part to Starling.

He won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 2.40 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:07.16. He also was a member of the winning 400 free relay team (3:20.44).

Fellow Lex grad and MU senior Jacob Hathaway won the 200 butterfly in 2:06.32, while freshman Trey Nickoli won the 100 fly in 56.46. Fellow freshman Joe Hathaway finished third in the 100 fly (57.56).

The Purple Raiders are 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the OAC. Mount Union returns to action Saturday at Ohio Northern.

It was Wade’s second nationals cut, qualifying her for the nationals at Evansville, Ind., March 10 to 14.
