Otha “Goose” Adkins, 84, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Galion Hospital – Avita Health Systems. Goose was born on March 8, 1941, in Greenwich, Ohio, to the late Norman and Velda Adkins.

Goose graduated from Lexington High School in 1959 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his military service, he embarked on a long and dedicated career at General Motors as an inspector, retiring in 2000. From 2001 to 2008, he continued his connection with GM by working as a consultant for DK Services. Never one to slow down, he later embraced a second retirement career as a runner at Donley, where he worked for ten years, staying active and engaged in the community he loved.

He married the love of his life, Mary (Bowman) Adkins, on November 20, 1979. Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion, and they cherished 43 beautiful years together before her passing on October 29, 2022.

Goose enjoyed life most when surrounded by good company, friendly competition, and the outdoors he loved so much. Whether pitching horseshoes at the Moose Lodge in Mansfield, he was always in his element, and after he stepped away from the game, he went on to enjoy tossing bags in spirited games of cornhole. Casting a line on a peaceful fishing trip was another favorite pastime. A devoted sports fan, he cheered faithfully for the Ohio State Buckeyes and took great pride in Galion High School, following its teams and sharing that pride with others wherever he went. He was also a faithful member of Grace Point Church for 40 years, where his quiet presence and commitment reflected the values he lived by.

Left to cherish Otha’s memory are his children, Phillip Adkins, Daniel Adkins, and Joel (Melissa) Adkins; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Reneda Rush and Ezra Adkins.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Avis Stallard, Olvie Britton, Dennis Adkins and an infant brother.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made out to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
