Faye Elizabeth Griebling Obituary

Surrounded by the love of her family and a lifetime of cherished memories, Faye Elizabeth Griebling, 93, a lifelong resident of Lexington, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, following an extended illness. Faye’s life was a reflection of devotion—to her family, her home, and the simple, meaningful moments that bring people together.

Born to Gaylord and Eula Belle (McElvain) Hawks, Faye was a lifelong Mansfield resident and a proud graduate of Madison High School, Class of 1950. Shortly after graduation, she began her working career at Mansfield Tire and Rubber. Through a mutual friend and co-worker she was introduced on a blind date to Carroll F. Griebling. The two were married on August 30, 1953.

Faye later continued her professional career with State Auto, serving as an insurance adjuster and claims manager.

Family was always at the center of Faye’s world. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she had a remarkable way of making each person feel deeply valued and uniquely special. Her home was the center of family gatherings, especially during the holidays she treasured most. Christmas was her favorite—her house decorated and filled with warmth, traditions, and joy. Easter was equally special, complete with thoughtful décor and Easter baskets, a tradition she lovingly continued even as her family grew into adulthood. Birthdays were never ordinary; they were celebrated with balloons, decorations, and parties, because Faye believed her loved ones deserved to feel celebrated.

She enjoyed shopping trips with her daughters to Lazarus, Macy’s, or Peebles, followed by lunch and more shopping; cozy nights staying up late as a proud night owl watching Hallmark movies and classic westerns from the days of Gary Cooper; and long conversations on the phone, sometimes lasting hours, with her children, siblings, and friends. Even when physically apart, Faye remained connected, always offering wisdom, encouragement, and a gentle perspective. She vehemently loved her cats and caring for them especially Hobo, Scooter, and Mr. Z.

An amazing cook and baker, Faye was known for her delicious homemade pies with flaky crusts and her beloved banana cake topped with sea foam frosting. She enjoyed sewing outfits for her children, tending lovingly to her flower gardens—especially her cherished geraniums—and spending time in her sunroom watching birds, feeding her hummingbirds, and enjoying the peace they brought. An avid reader, she was rarely without a book nearby and found great pleasure in a good meal shared with wonderful company.

Above all, Faye adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showering them with love, attention, and countless treasured moments that will live on in their hearts.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Griebling of Westlake, Joan (Randy) Carroll of Lexington; her grandchildren, Matt (Katlyn) Carroll and Marc (Rachel) Carroll; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Grady, Emersyn, Dempsey, Reese, Lucas, and Miles. She is also survived by her sister Barb O’Donnell.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband Carroll F. Griebling, and siblings Margarett Dillon, Jim Hawks, and Sharon Reynolds.

The family extends a heartfelt and sincere thank you to Kristie of Western Reserve Hospice for her compassionate, attentive care, which brought comfort and peace to Faye and her loved ones.

The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Griebling family. Private graveside services were held in Lexington Cemetery December 22, 2025.
