LEXINGTON — It was a big weekend for Lexington senior Seven Allen.
The 5-9 point guard scored his 1,000th career point on Friday night, albeit in a 50-45 loss to Dover, the newest member of the Ohio Cardinal Conference.
But Allen shook off that defeat on Saturday in a big way against the Sandusky Blue Streaks.
Allen is the focal point of a Lexington team that has seen fellow seniors Joe Caudill and Brayden Fogle pass on basketball this winter. The two big men will enroll early to launch college football careers at Michigan State and Georgia, respectively.
With the spotlight shining brightly on Saturday at home in a game against a team that has been a postseason nemesis for the Minutemen, Allen scored 45 points in a come-from-behind 69-67 win for coach Scott Hamilton.
Allen, who never left the court during the game, connected on 14 of 29 field goal attempts, including five of 11 three-pointers. He also drew 10 fouls from Sandusky defenders and hit 12 of 15 FT attempts.
Allen also had three rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Minutemen, now 2-1, including a season-opening 61-33 win Nov. 28 at Clear Fork.
Lexington and Sandusky played to a 35-35 tie at halftime on Saturday, a game started earlier than usual due to Ohio State playing in the Big 10 football championship game.
The Blue Streaks led 52-51 after three quarters and led throughout most of the final period, including 64-49 late in the game and 67-65 with just 22 seconds remaining.
But Allen nailed a triple to give the Minutemen a 68-67 lead and the home team finished the scoring with a free throw to claim the win.
Allen was the only Lexington player in double figures. Senior Dantrelle Hughes added nine and sophomore Ethan Bianchi added six. Jayden Perkins, a 6-2 freshman, led the Minutemen with seven rebounds.
Kymirr Hunter led Sandusky with 23 points. Dale Johnson added 10.
Lexington plays at Wooster in another OCC game on Dec. 12.
