SHELBY — The Shelby Foundation is now accepting applications for the Wanda June Humphrey Nursing Scholarship, a $1,000 award supporting registered nurses in Richland County who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or higher.
Created in 2009, the scholarship honors the legacy of Wanda June Humphrey, a registered nurse who dedicated more than 26 years of service to the Shelby community.
Known for her forward-thinking approach to patient care and professional growth, Humphrey believed deeply in the importance of continued education in the nursing field.
“Wanda June Humphrey was truly a visionary,” said Carrie Kemerer, executive director of The Shelby Foundation.
“Now that the medical field is increasingly requiring four-year degrees or higher, her commitment to supporting nurses is more relevant than ever.”
Humphrey established the scholarship herself during her lifetime, grounded in her desire to support the next generation of nurses.
“She wanted to help nurses grow, advance, and continue serving with excellence,” Kemerer added. “This fund reflects her lifelong dedication to caregiving and education.”
