JEROMESVILLE — A week ago Hillsdale erupted for 49 points in the first half to subdue Northwestern.
This week Rittman absorbed the Falcons’ charge in the second half. Hillsdale posted 28 points after intermission to pull away from a one-score game and earn a 49-13 victory over the Indians.
Senior running back Owen Sloan ripped off 200 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries to send coach Trevor Cline’s club into next week’s Wayne County Athletic League championship with an undefeated record.
Sloan scored on TD dashes of 3, 6, 46 and 50 yards. The latter two bolts came in the third quarter and helped the Falcons open the gap from a 21-13 edge at intermission.
Junior quarterback Kael Lewis threw for 180 yards and a touchdown, and also chipped in a 2-yard TD plunge. Kyle Turk registered 106 yards receiving and a score.
Hillsdale piled up 530 yards of total offense, 320 on the ground and 210 in the air.
The Falcons will take a 9-0 record overall, 6-0 in the WCAL, into next week’s matchup at Norwayne for a shot at an outright league crown. The Bobcats beat Smithville 24-16 on Friday night to set up the winner-take-all scenario.
