MANSFIELD — Roads are closing and then opening within the same day, and traffic is finding its way while drivers are rubber-necking the progress of construction all over downtown Mansfield.

The $20.3 million Main Street Corridor Improvement Project, which began in March 2025, is on track for completion by the end of October, according to Mayor Jodie Perry.

“We are planning to do a grand opening or a celebration on Friday, Nov. 6,” Perry told City Council earlier this month.

Almost there

What a difference a few weeks can make on Main Street. It’s been exciting to watch so many of the finishing details come together, and we’re finally getting a real look at what our new downtown will be.

We are getting so close to the finish line on this project! With the new arches in place, Main Street open, and the plazas taking shape, it’s starting to feel like the downtown we’ve been imagining for so long. We can’t wait to see everyone out enjoying it.

Thank you to our downtown businesses and the entire community for your patience, flexibility, and support throughout this project. We know it hasn’t always been easy, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has stuck with us along the way.

Progress in last 2 weeks

Lots of progress on Main Street over the last two weeks! Crews have been busy with:

  • Preparing planting areas and tree locations in the south plaza.
  • Installing decorative fencing along the new stone walls.
  • Making connections to the irrigation systems for trees and landscaping.
  • Adding sandstone finishes to the plaza walls.
  • Pouring concrete around the bases of the new arches in both plazas.
  • Installing sandstone pavers in the south plaza.

The plazas are coming together, and more of the finishing details are falling into place.

Looking ahead

Here’s what to expect over the next two weeks:

  • Plaza Construction: Work continues on the new plazas, including decorative stone walls, sandstone pavers, and fountain installation.
  • Street Paving: Crews will continue paving work throughout the project area.
  • Signs & Fencing: Installation of new signage and fencing will continue.
  • Irrigation: Crews will continue connecting the irrigation systems for the new trees and landscaping.

The arches are here

One of the most anticipated features of the Main Street Improvement Project is finally in place.

Located in the north and south plazas of Central Park, the new arches were inspired by the historic arches that once stood over downtown Mansfield’s streets.

Their design was carefully considered to reflect the shape, materials, and character of the original arches, bringing a piece of our downtown’s history into its future.

They’re a wonderful nod to Mansfield’s past and a beautiful new landmark for downtown. We love seeing this little piece of history come full circle.
