ASHLAND — One man was hospitalized and another was in custody after an early Thursday morning shooting in the parking lot of a downtown Ashland bar.

David Struckoff, 25, of Nova, was taken into custody at the Wagon Wheel, 255 Orange Road, after the shooting incident at 1:28 a.m., police said.

He was placed in the Ashland County Jail on a charge of felonious assault, pending a case review by the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office, according to an Ashland Police Division press release.

A male victim, an Ashland resident, was shot in the torso and was transported by ambulance to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He underwent surgery and is now recovering, according to police.

Police did not identify the victim.

Police collected a handgun from the scene during the investigation, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and there are currently no safety concerns for the community, according to police.

According to the Wagon Wheel Facebook page, it’s the oldest operating bar in Ashland, founded in 1951.
