MANSFIELD — What does it mean to belong? A new art exhibition at the Mansfield Richland County Public Library explores that question over the next couple of months.
“Where You Belong,” is the slogan created by the Mansfield Public Art Commission and the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library. The exhibit opened on Sept. 22 and will be on display through Nov. 14.
The exhibition, located on the second floor atrium, will showcase a collection of works from local artists that explore ideas of identity, place and community.
Community Engagement Coordinator Jessica Nay said this will be the smallest exhibit they have had to date, with only six pieces of artwork.
“The exhibit is based on the library’s new slogan, “You Belong,” Nay said.
Experience belonging through art at Mansfield Public Library
Mansfield Public Art Commission Chair Jenny Pennell said it’s a creative extension of the library’s mission to not only connect, but inspire.
“We are thrilled to partner again with Mansfield/Richland County Public Library to provide a platform where artists and the community can explore what belonging means in today’s world,” she said.
The new slogan, launched in August 2025, tells the community that no matter who they are, what they love or where they are headed, they belong at the Library.
The Mansfield Public Art Commission and the Library bring the theme to life in an accessible art exhibit that engages all ages and provokes thought.
Pennell said the artwork will be two-dimensional, consisting of mostly paintings.
“It will be a relatively smaller show from the past exhibits,” she said. “But still beautiful works.”
The idea of a place about belonging for all different people is what Pennell said she is most excited for with the exhibition.
“A place where each individual can find their peace and creativity,” she said.
Anyone can stop by the Library to view the exhibit for free during regular hours, and the Library invites guests to engage with the artwork and participate in upcoming programs.
Mansfield Public Library hours:
