MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Senior football team raced to a first-quarter lead, then enjoyed a halftime advantage.
But the second half was a New Philadelphia barrage as the Quakers earned a 45-26 victory Friday night at Arlin Field in Ohio Cardinal Conference action.
Bralon Fletcher’s 2-yard touchdown blast put Senior High on top 6-0 after the first period. New Philadelphia on Myles Tyson’s 17-yard TD dash, and the PAT made it 7-6.
But the Tygers climbed back on top when Sean Tanner rifled an 85-yard scoring pass to Terrance Feagin. That marked the longest play of the season for Senior High, and Tanner’s conversion run sent the hosts to intermission with a 14-7 lead.
Yet it was almost entirely a New Philadelphia production in the second half.
The Quakers tacked on two touchdowns in the third quarter and three more in the fourth in a 38-point outburst.
Mansfield Senior scored a pair of TDs in the final six minutes. The first came on Tanner’s 51-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Corbin with 5:21 remaining in the game. That same duo clicked for a 56-yard score with 2:20 showing.
Tanner completed 14-of-32 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns. Corbin had five catches for 131 yards and two TDs. Feagin added three catches for 104 yards and a score.
Senior High falls to 0-5 overall, 0-2 in the OCC. The Tygers travel to Lexington next week.
New Philadelphia improved to 2-3, 2-1. The Quakers play The Linsley (W.Va.) School next weekend.
