“There’s no place like home.”

For me, Lexington is home.

I have been teaching English at Lexington High School since 1999, and I still love my job. I could have retired, but when you love what you do and believe in the people you work with, why would you want to leave?

As a teacher and parent of three Lexington graduates, I have seen firsthand what makes our schools so special. My children had a meaningful education and felt valued by many teachers while attending school.

Lexington provides a solid education to help prepare students for whatever they choose after graduation, but equally important, our district provides growth through sports, music, and the arts.

These programs foster a deep sense of belonging, contribute to school pride, and develop well-rounded students; we need to ensure we keep these opportunities at Lexington High School.

That is the power of a strong school community: helping students become multifaceted individuals who discover talents and possibilities they may never have imagined.

When I think about Lexington, I think of the Wizard of Oz and its timeless lessons about brains, heart, and courage.

We have brains. Our students work hard! Our teachers and administrators are talented professionals who work tirelessly to provide an outstanding education, and our students rise to that challenge. Every day, I see learning, creativity, and growth happening in our classrooms and through our extracurriculars.

We have heart. I am most proud of our staff—all of them. From our secretaries, coaches, nurses, custodians, cafeteria workers, technology team, aides, bus drivers, related service providers, and maintenance team to our teachers and administrators; we have people who genuinely care about kids. Every role matters. Each day, these dedicated individuals help create a place where students are supported, encouraged, and given the opportunity to succeed.

And we need courage. . . the courage to invest in our schools and recognize that a strong education is one of the most important gifts we can give our children and our community. Our district has had a difficult year, yet we have come together to uplift each other in ways that has been inspiring.

Supporting our school levy is a way to help ensure that Lexington continues to provide the opportunities, resources, and care our students deserve. Every day I see staff giving their all, students working hard, and a community that has so much to be proud of. I am grateful to be part of it.

I’d like to take a moment to thank the parents and families I’ve gotten to know over the years. And when I do retire, I know I will feel the same way about my students that Dorothy does about the Scarecrow: I think I’ll miss you most of all.

There truly is no place like home. Please join me in supporting Lexington schools and the levy that helps make this special place possible. Together, We Are Lex!!
