ASHLAND COUNTY — A 27-year-old Shreve man died Sunday afternoon in a crash involving two motorcycles and a pick-up truck, according to the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The accident happened at 3:53 p.m. on Ohio 511 in Vermillion Township, south of U.S. 30, according to the patrol.
Troopers said a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado was northbound on Ohio 511, driven by Jon G. Burkholder, 62, of Ashland.
A 1995 Honda VF750C was southbound on Ohio 511, driven by Noah David Carmel Rogers, 27, of Shreve.
A 2005 Suzuki VL1500 was also southbound on Ohio 511, driven by Dwight A. Finney, 50, of Atwater, Ohio. A third motorcycle was also traveling south on Ohio 511, but was not involved in the crash.
Troopers said Rogers drove left of center attempting to pass the other two motorcycles.
The Chevrolet Colorado and the Honda VF750C motorcycle collided head-on, according to the patrol.
Rogers was ejected from the motorcycle and both he and the motorcycle came to a final rest in a ditch west of Ohio 511. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Suzuki Motorcycle was also involved in the collision and traveled off of the west side of Ohio 511.
Finney, ejected from his motorcycle, as transported from the scene by the Hayesville Fire Department to University Hospital Ashland Samaritan Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the patrol.
The Chevrolet Colorado came to a controlled final rest within the northbound travel lane of Ohio 511. Burkholder was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, the Hayesville Fire Department, the Ashland Fire Department, and the Ashland County Coroner’s Office.
Ohio 511 was closed in the area of the crash for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated.
The accident remains under investigation, troopers said.
