Darlene Rose Roub Jewell, age 74, of Clyde, died Thursday evening, August 28, 2025 at Cleveland Clinic with her family at her side. Her death follows a courageous 14-month battle with cancer.
Darlene, known to many as “Dar”, was born March 14, 1951 in Shelby to Lloyd E. and Virginia Mae (Livesay) Hench. While in high school, Darlene helped her family by staying home to care for her sister, Diane, until she started a family of her own. Darlene worked in the restaurant business as a waitress most notably at L&K Restaurant in Shelby and the Old Country Buffet in Mansfield. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches, and always was up for a good game of Rummy. Dar loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. Although Dar faced various times of adversity in her life, she found happiness in each situation. When asked by others how she was doing, she was quick to reply with a smile on her face, “I am happy.”
Dar is survived by her children: Anthony (Samantha) Roub and Virginia Rose (Nate) Collins both of Shelby; grandchildren: Anthony Charles Roub, Alexander Wyatt Roub, Jacob Billheimer, Jared Billheimer, and Havana Cooper; siblings: Allan (Connie) Hench and Diane Hench both of Clyde; step-children: Charles (Connie) Roub Jr., Anna Fisher, Shannon (Sam) Lewis, Roderick Roub, Carol Guerin, and Ronald (Ginny) Roub; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents Dar was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Roub, Sr., and sister, Cheryle Hench.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at her daughter’s church, Christian Life Church, 961 Springmill Street, Mansfield, Ohio with burial immediately following in Biddle Cemetery on Remlinger Road.
Care for Dar and her family is being provided by the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Condolences may be made on Dar’s obituary on the funeral home’s website (PenwellFuneralHome.com) or their Facebook page (Facebook.com/PenwellFuneralHome).
