Richard Allen Smith of Galion, Ohio peacefully succumbed to his battle with cancer on August 23, 2025, in Marion, Ohio.

Rick was born October 5, 1960, to Richard C. Smith and Mari Lynn J. Smith in Willard, Ohio. Growing up in the small town of Shenandoah, Ohio, he had many adventures with his four siblings and close cousins while attending Crestview Schools. During his fast-lived younger years, he picked up many skills he would utilize to help others. He worked most of his life as a truck driver to provide for his family, forging many lifelong friends along the way.

Later in life, he settled in Galion, Ohio where he enjoyed spending time with his son and daughter and various “adopted” children, sharing his words of wisdom, lessons of growth, and teachings of chaos. His ornery spirit kept many on their toes, never knowing when a bottle rocket was coming their way. Throughout his ongoing battle, he found joy and peace in spending time with loved ones, whopping everyone in cards, and watching his granddaughters grow. Rick will be greatly missed.

Richard is survived by his children Joshua(Christina) Smith and Elizabeth(Matthew) Rhea; stepsons Samuel Parks and family, and Leonard(Melody) Parks and families; siblings Lisa(Lynn) Shinaberry, Ed Smith, Laurie Carbetta, and Steve(Lynette Thomas) Smith; grandchildren Ophelia Smith and Kaylee Rhea, dear friend and caregiver Wendy Eddleblute, various aunts, uncles, and cousins, nieces and nephews, and many loved family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother Mari Lynn J. Smith, his father Richard C. Smith, and his brother-in-law Nicholas Carbetta.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
