MANSFIELD — An adjusted Shawshank Hustle route didn’t stop more than 1,500 runners and walkers from traveling through downtown Mansfield.

The 4.6 mile “escape” from the historic Ohio State Reformatory began just after 8 a.m. Saturday morning. In its 11th year, the popular race featured a modified route due to ongoing construction along North Main Street.

This year’s route looped runners and walkers around the central construction zone, utilizing North Walnut Street, Park Avenue West, North Park and North Diamond streets.

Participants had chances to snap selfies at standup cutouts of characters from the iconic “Shawshank Redemption” film, along with the option to take a free ride at the Richland Carrousel Park.

Chances to cool down were also offered along North Walnut and North Diamond streets as event volunteers sprayed large clouds of mist from garden hoses. Temperatures hovered around the mid-70s with partly cloudy skies Saturday morning.

Participants were invited to head back downtown to the Phoenix Brewing Company for a Shawshank Hustle afterparty.
