MANSFIELD — The July Final Friday descended on The Brickyard in downtown Mansfield with its customary mix of live music and food trucks.

Taylor Schlupp opened the show with an acoustic set. The talented individual started off covering Eric Clapton, and did it well, citing the artist as one of his favorites.

I heard him at Liederkranz during the Wishes for Kids marathon earlier this year along with his band. They covered Stevie Ray Vaughn brilliantly. Opening acts don’t get much time, so simply an acoustic set makes sense. He plays around the area, I hope to catch him again, soon.

Emily Raff and her band filled the middle spot of the lineup, and is no stranger to The Brickyard.

Her set featured her own tunes, a few covers, and band members leading a song of their own. Local R&B favorite, Jody Odom Jr. on “keys” featured the Doobie Brothers tune Long Train Running, in his own pumped-up style, complete with his signature dance moves. (What a talent!).

Headlining … some band named after a sneaker? The legendary Red Ball Jets!

The packed Brickyard was ready to get off their seats, did just that, quickly jockeying for space near the stage.

“RBJ” had the place dancing, moving and grooving just a few songs in. For those who don’t or won’t dance (myself included, avoiding a public spectacle), attendees both young and old just wore smiles.
