Herman Shelton, age 83, of Mansfield Ohio passed away on July 17, 2025 at his home following an extended illness. On March 29, 1942 he was born in Tazwell County- Richmond, Virginia, the son of George Washington Shelton and Mabel Exie Profit. Herman was born in Richmond, Virginia, then moved to Ohio when he was 16. On April 13, 2001 he married Valerie Shelton at the Abundant Life Church in Ontario and together they shared 24 years. Herman had worked at Ohio brass, Peabody Barnes, and MANCI. He was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Ontario.
He loved singing and playing his guitars. He played in the gospel groups, the Harmonaires and New Vision. He also enjoyed nursing home ministry, hunting and fishing and word searches and puzzles.
What makes Herman unique was his Shelton sense of humor, being a jokester and a Godly man who prayed for everyone. He could tell you anything you needed to know about the Bible.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie Shelton; sons, Anthony (Heather) Shelton and Tim (Anastasiia) Shelton; stepson, Jason (Becky) Tharpe; grandchildren, Bethany (Richard) Jones, Kimberly Shelton, Kayla Shelton, Kristen (Javen) Samiliano, Colton (Hannah) Shelton, Kiefer (Lori) Sloan, Zachariah Remaley, Dylan Tharpe, Logan Tharpe, Trevor Gray and Hunter Gray; great grandchildren, Payton, Harmen, Kodah, Ryland, Maria, Cheyenne, Oxana, Dakota, Leland, Adelynn, Emma, Oliver and Christopher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers and 3 sisters (Herman is the last of eight) and daughter, Lanette (Jimmy Jones) Shelton.
A homecoming celebration will be held at Abundant Life Church, 1083 Bedford Blvd., Ontario, OH 44906 on July 31, 2025 at 6 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Abundant Life Church.
